Dylan's 1st Pinewood Derby (April 8, 2009)

Dylan and Chad had alot of fun preparing for their 1st pinewood derby together. Dylan loved sanding and painting. His brothers loved watching him and are now counting the years that they too can be in Boyscouts and do a pinewood derby car with their dad.

Here is the finished product.

There were 30 boys racing their cars that night. They raced three cars at a time. Each boy got to race 6 times. One point for 3rd, two points for 2nd, and three points for 1st. Then they added up the points. Chad was out of town that night and was very disapointed that he could'nt be there. I had to put the graphite in the wheels and add a penny to make the weight just right.

The first four races Dylan came in 3rd and then all of a sudden he came in 1st for the last two races. I don't know if the graphite finally kicked in or what. I noticed at the end one of the front wheels started to come out. I wonder if thats what started making his car go faster. He tied with 3 others for 18th out of 30. We were happy to win a couple races. It was fun.

Dylan was so excited when he saw his car come in 1st. The pic on the left is of him right after his first win. He got a certificate for Best Workmanship. They put the date wrong...2009 not 2008.

Expensive two weeks

Yes....that WAS our T.V. until Cade was playing wii bowling with his brothers and the remote slipped through his hands and smacked the screen. When the T.V. is turned off you can't tell it's broken. This happened on Saturday, April 4th. The boys had a wrestling tournament so we decided to tape general conference and watch it later that evening. (For those unfamilar..general conference is held twice a year and was that sat and sun and we receive spiritual guidance from the leaders of our church.) I had to run an errand and Chad had the boys play the Wii until I got back. When I got home he broke the news to me. Anyone want a 5 year old? It is Chad and my fault because we don't enforce them wearing the straps around their wrists. So, if any of you have the Wii...make your kids wear the wrist straps!!! They're not all stories...the remote really can go through the T.V. I called the T.V. repair man and he said to find a big black trash can and throw it in and go buy a new one. Unfortunately there is no fixing this. So Sunday we decided we could at least listen to conference because you could still hear sound on the T.V...just no picture. Well, on Sunday morning we turned it on and even the sound was gone. So we set up the laptop on the kitchen table for the kids with their coloring books and Chad and I watched conference on our bedroom computer. I really needed to be uplifted that day and conference really helped.

On that same Saturday...Gavin broke my cell phone. In the last two weeks our washing machine, video player in the car, and video camera also broke. I was wondering what else could break down. Maybe I shouldn't ask that question out loud. EXPENSIVE TWO WEEKS.

IT'S A....

BOY!!!! We now have our basketball team. Daddy and Dylan thought it would be a girl and Cade, Jack and I guessed it was a boy. We have decided to name him Carson Edgerton. We are really excited and look forward to all the sport events we have ahead of us. The highlight of the week for Chad and I are going to the older boys sporting activities. It's fun to know that won't end anytime soon. In fact the boys wrestling coach was very excited when he found out we were having another boy. Everything looks good. Baby is healthy. I just took my glucose test and I passed. Yeah....no gestational diabetis. I had it with Caden, but he was the only one...thank goodness.

Well, I've had my computer fixed since January, but have been so busy that it's been hard for me to get to posting my journal entries. By the end of the day I'm exhausted and never get to it. So I'm going to try hard to get back to it. I'm also going to "try" and back post a bunch of stuff so family members can see pics I've never shown them and so I'll have them in my blog book. We'll see if I get that done or not. :-) I'm excited to start looking at everyones blog again since I haven't done that lately either.

Good News and Bad News

I always like to start with the bad news first. My computer has broke down yet again. So I'm out of commission for awhile and I guess I'll start off with Thanksgiving day once I get everything back again. The good news? We are expecting Baby Edgerton #5. I'm guessing the due date is between June 29th and July 4th. We are very excited to watch our family grow. The boys like to let me know what the baby's name should be. The names change often and some are pretty funny. Shelton and Alexander are the most recent from Dylan. Both boys names in his class. You see.. we don't discuss girl names in our household because it seems too unlikely. :-) I am all out of ideas for boy names. Any ideas out there for names that go with Dylan, Caden, Jackson and Gavin?

The Turkey Pit (11/26/08)

This was my first year making Thanksgiving dinner...well, with my mom's help of course. In the past we have always gone to family or we have gone to a Thanksgiving buffet because my kids were too few and too young for the hassel and all the major leftovers that would be left to just Chad and I. I had it easy this year because we cooked our turkey underground in a pit overnight.
Some friends of ours in our ward...Buckey and Marcey have done this in their backyard for 3 years now.
We first cleaned out the turkey and then rubbed 4 cubes of butter throughtout it and threw in some garlic and seasoning salt. Then we wrapped it in two turkey oven bags, wrapped it in foil, and then in chicken wire. We made an "E" for Edgerton so we would know which was ours. There were 24 turkeys in the pit this year.

After the turkeys were lowered beams were put across the pit and then plywood on top.

Bucky and a few others are putting dirt on top of the plywood wherever smoke is seen to keep it all in.

We haven't had rain for the last 98 days until last night and it started to rain again so they decided to try and put a tarp on top because the rain was suppose to be heavy. Here's Chad covering it up. We brought our turkeys over at 10pm and will pick it up at 10am tomarrow morning.

Twilight at Midnight (11/21/08)

My sister in law, Stephanie, and her roommate Bridget came to visit us for the weekend from Utah. One of their friends got married on Thursday. They flew in early that morning went to the luncheon, reception and then it was off to see Twilight at the midnight showing. On top of it all they both had colds. They are young college students though so they can handle it. I on the other hand being a mother of four was worried I wouldn't stay awake past the credits. I can't remember the last time I was up past tweleve.

Steph and Bridget made us t-shirts. I thought it was so sweet of them to think of me and make me one too. I thought they did a great job on the shirts. Bridget wasn't as happy with hers as she experimented by putting a vampire on the front of hers. She says she "took one for the team":-)

Here's our self portrait before the movie started. There were nine theaters open at the theater we went to and we got there at 10:00 pm....out of all nine theaters the best seats we could find were the fifth row from the front. I had heard people were waiting since 1, 3, and 5 o'clock. Wow.

Another self portrait of us eating popcorn. I thought it was fun being a part of all the excitment. I had never been to a midnight showing before. It was fun being in a theater that packed too. Highlights of the night would include getting to see the new previews for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and when the movie started some guy yelled out, "Edwards ugly" and some girl yelled back, "You're just jealous". That was pretty funny. I thought the movie was good. It beat my expectations. I thought they did a good job staying close to the book. I had a great time and yes I did stay awake the whole time. Went to bed at 3:00 a.m. and woke up at 8:00 a.m. The girls slept in til 11:00 a.m. Another benefit of being a college student. I thought it was fun being a part of all the excitment.

Halloween Night

"I AM HULK!!!"

"Don't make me angry..you won't like me if I get angry!!!" Jack loved being the Hulk. It was fun for us to make his costume too.

The boys were vampires this year. They wanted to be vampires last year and Chad and I talked them into being old men instead. They were excited. On Halloween night we realized we didn't have enough white paint. I went to the store to get some more and I couldn't believe how packed it was with everyone trying to find a last minute costume. Needless to say all the paints were wiped out. So Dad had to do what he could to get it on both boys. I think he did a good job.

"Boo"

Gavin was a ghost for his first Halloween. He didn't wear his costume for very long. He wouldn't let me give him a black nose either. It smeared all over his face. When Caden was a baby he let me do it (he was only 6 months though). He wouldn't put his hands into the holes and he crawled and got his outfit all dirty within minutes. What a cutie!

This is the only picture we got at trunk or treat this year and Chad took it. I was too busy taking care of Gavin. He isn't walking yet and he wanted to crawl, which I didn't want him to do in the parking lot so he put up a fight at times. This is the first year I passed out the candy...Chad usually does that. It was kind of nice to just sit down. Trunk or treat was alot of fun...it's my favorite ward activity. The only night our ward could get trunt or treat was Halloween this year. I like it best when it's a different night because that means two nights of fun. We usually have good food, trick or treat around the neighborhood and get some fold out chairs and sit out in front of the house and pass out candy. We also make homemade candy apples drenched in chocolate,chocolate chips and crushed Oreos. That's okay...we can look forward to that next year. The positive thing out of this was that I didn't have to paint Jack up twice. :-)

Green bath water. The green paint was a little harder to get off than I thought it would be. Not bad, but not that easy either. When we were done emptying the green water I had to scrub the bathtub really good to get all the green off.
